EMPOWERING SIERRA LEONEANS AND THE WORLD

The I.B. Taylor-Kamara Foundation, Inc. (IBTK Foundation), a New York-based non-profit organization, was established in 2005 by the children of the late Ishmael Byne Taylor-Kamara, a Sierra Leonean lawyer, civil servant, and diplomat. The organization seeks to raise and provide funds to support the development of the human and institutional capacity of Sierra Leoneans through funding local organizations to tackle the myriad challenges facing their country. The Foundation’s efforts are geared primarily toward the education sector, youth empowerment, and gender equity. It has in the past, among other initiatives, funded research projects of University of Sierra Leone students, various scholarship programs, and supported programs spearheaded by women to increase their participation in the governance and

decision-making arena in Sierra Leone.

Leadership Insights: Reflections and Perspectives

Shaping Futures, One Life at a Time: A Message from the President and Executive Director

Welcome to the I.B. Taylor-Kamara Foundation. As I reflect on this past year, I’m reminded of a moment that truly captured the essence of our work. In a small village in Sierra Leone, I met a young girl who had never stepped foot in a classroom. Today, thanks to our collective efforts, she’s not only attending school but dreaming of becoming a leader in her community. Stories like hers remind me why we do what we do.

2024 has been a year of progress and partnership. Through co-facilitating, sponsoring, funding, and moderating key initiatives, we’ve worked alongside dedicated partners to make a tangible difference. Our focus—empowering youth, uplifting women, and fostering sustainable communities across Africa and the world—has been guided by our commitment to the United Nations' Agenda
2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Beyond the frameworks and goals, our mission is deeply personal. It’s about changing lives through access to quality education, promoting gender equality, or taking actionable steps against climate change. Each success reflects your unwavering support and the dedication of everyone involved in this journey.

Together, we are shaping a brighter future, and I couldn’t be more excited about what lies ahead. I invite you to join us as we continue this vital work. Thank you for being a part of this mission and for helping us create lasting change that will be felt for generations.

Hawa Taylor-Kamara Diallo,

President  & Executive Director

    Our 3 Key Pillars

Inspired by the life and legacy of H.E. Ishmael Byne Taylor-Kamara, we are driven by a deep commitment to service. We strive to make meaningful contributions to the communities we serve, improving lives and building a more just and resilient world. Through our 3 key pillars, our foundation fosters lasting, positive change in communities.

    1. Education and Skills Building

We believe in the power of knowledge and skills to transform lives. Providing individuals with practical training and resources empowers them to make informed decisions, build resilient businesses, and improve their economic well-being. This pillar is about giving people the tools they need to create a better future for themselves and their communities.

    2. Economic Empowerment and Resiliency

We work to create opportunities that foster financial independence and inclusive growth, especially for women and marginalized groups. Through funding, business support, and job creation, we help break down barriers and disrupt cycles of poverty. This pillar reflects our commitment to building an equitable society where everyone has the chance to thrive.

    3. sustainable environments

This pillar is rooted in the values of sustainable development goals (SDGs), which guide our efforts to create a more inclusive society, drive economic progress, and protect the environment. By addressing key environmental challenges, we focus on practical, community-driven solutions that help build a healthier and more sustainable future for everyone.

    Our Mission

    Our Mission

Our Vision is a world where every person, regardless of location, has the resources and opportunities to thrive in a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable environment. Our Framework

    Our Framework

    Our Framework

At the I.B. Taylor-Kamara Foundation, we implement programs and activities rooted in our core pillars: Education and Skills Development, Economic Empowerment and Resiliency, and Environmental Sustainability—collectively known as the "3 Es." This integrated framework enables us to address systemic challenges and create sustainable, transformative change that aligns with our mission and goals.

    Education and Skills Development

We believe that education is the foundation of progress and empowerment. By improving access to quality education and equipping individuals with practical skills, we empower underserved communities to unlock opportunities and break cycles of poverty. Our programs in this area include:

    • Building Infrastructure: Partnering with local communities to construct and renovate schools and learning centers.
    • Scholarship Initiatives: Providing financial support to students from marginalized backgrounds to pursue their education.
    • Skill-Building Workshops: Offering training in technical, vocational, and digital skills to prepare individuals for the modern workforce.

These efforts aim to expand access to education by 30% and create pathways for lifelong learning by 2028.

    Economic Empowerment and Resiliency

Economic independence is a critical step toward achieving long-term stability. Through targeted programs, we equip individuals and communities with the tools, resources, and knowledge to build sustainable livelihoods and adapt to changing circumstances. Our initiatives include:

    • Entrepreneurship Training: Supporting aspiring entrepreneurs with mentorship, business development workshops, and micro-grant funding.
    • Financial Literacy Programs: Teaching budgeting, saving, and financial planning to promote self-reliance.
    • Community-Based Resiliency Projects: Encouraging cooperative economic models and fostering local innovation to create sustainable sources of income.
Our goal is to empower 10,000 individuals, especially youth and women, to become economically resilient by 2028.

    Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability underpins our commitment to building a more equitable future. We recognize the importance of preserving natural resources and promoting eco-friendly practices to ensure communities thrive in harmony with their environment. Our environmental initiatives include:

    • Eco-Education Campaigns: Raising awareness about environmental challenges and sustainable practices in schools and communities.
    • Renewable Energy Projects: Promoting clean and renewable energy sources to reduce carbon footprints.
    • Reforestation and Conservation Efforts: Supporting tree-planting drives and habitat restoration projects to combat deforestation and climate change.

We contribute to global efforts to address climate change and ensure environmental equity by embedding sustainability in our programs.

    A Holistic, Integrated Approach

The 3Es are interconnected, forming a comprehensive approach that ensures our work has a lasting, multifaceted impact. We create a strong foundation for communities to grow, thrive, and adapt to future challenges by addressing education, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability.

Through these pillars, the I.B. Taylor-Kamara Foundation honors its mission to foster sustainable social change and build a brighter future for all.

    Our Goals

    Our Framework
